Are you tired of the average boring everyday salad? Me too. That being said, I have the absolute perfect summertime salad recipe for you. Watermelon Salad! Don’t worry there is no lettuce involved, and you do not have to make a giant bowl, unless you absolutely want to. I might actually recommend this because it really is the perfect mid-morning summertime snack.
What Do You Need for Watermelon Salad?
- Watermelon–What is a watermelon salad without the watermelon? Is it even a salad? I don’t think so, but you tell me. I personally prefer to look for Sugar Baby Watermelons when using watermelon in a salad. Why? Because they are known to be the sweetest. Really, you could use any kind of watermelon. However, unless you do not mind picking the seeds out, you may want to stick with the seedless variates.
- Blueberries–Blueberries are one of the fruits that I highly recommend buying organic. That is because they are a party of what is known as the dirty dozen. Any food in the dirty dozen is known for being one of the most contaminated foods.
- Strawberries–Yes, another dirty dozen and actually number one on the list, so also buy these organic if you can. I feel like I always have such a hard time keeping my strawberries from going bad. Anybody else?
- Kiwi– Last but not least (of the fruits) Kiwis. I feel like Kiwis are often the forgotten fruit. Maybe it’s because it takes some effort to actually eat a Kiwi. However, I have heard that some people eat a kiwi without peeling it.
- Mint–Fresh Mint! This is a must for a little added flavor. Also, is a salad really completing without a leaf?
- Lime Juice– This could be fresh or bottled it really does not matter. I prefer a bottle because it has a longer expiration date.
What is The Dirty Dozen?
Considering I mentioned a couple some dirty dozen berries, I figured I should also cover what the dirty dozen actually is. The dirty dozen are foods that are known to test positive for pesticide contaminates. The list was created by the Environmental Working Group as a resource for consumers with a goal to assist in making informed choices about their produce choices.

What is The Clean Fifteen?
The Clean Fifteen is another list designed by the Environmental Working Group to identify which foods have the lowest amount of pesticide residues based on he USDA data. Basically, you do not have to worry so much about getting organic when purchasing a food from this list. Good news, Watermelon is number fourteen.
