It is so crazy to me how hard it is to find products for children that are free from synthetic fragrances, harsh chemicals, artificial dyes, and other harmful ingredients. It really should not be necessary to have to do research in order to have a safe toddler bubble bath experience.
Do not worry, I am here to help. I am guilty of doing tons of research on baby products that my child uses, being a participant in endless non-toxic Facebook groups and conversations surrounding children, and I love to learn how I can do better for my child. You can probably relate to a few of these things.
What do I look for in Body Wash for Delicate Skin?
When looking for Body Wash or shampoo for my baby, the first thing that I always look at is the ingredient list. The ingredient list can tell you about many things like if the product focuses on gentle ingredients (like plant-based ingredients) or if there are any ingredients that could potentially cause an eye or skin irritations or allergic reactions.
Ingredients you will want to Avoid
In many popular skin or bath products there are common ingredients that are known to cause irritation and reaction with external use, that are still included.
Some of these ingredients are:
Lauryl Glucoside
Lauryl Glucoside which is generally considered safe for is skincare products and household products. However, some people do experience allergic reactions from the ingredient.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine
Cocamidopropyl Betaine is not considered toxic when used at certain concentrations. however, it is know to potentially cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some people. It is considered a skin sensitizer, and reactions may occur after prolonged us.
Sodium Chloride
Sodium Chloride is recognized as safe by the federal drug administration, however excessive amount can irritate the skin. This is especially true for those with pre-existing skin conditions such as eczema.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Sodium Laureth Sulfate is another ingredient that is not considered toxic. However, it is known to cause eye and skin irritation. Additionally, many people consider is to be harmful when used on sensitive skin.
What Brands are Considered Safe for Sensitive Skin?
The good news is that there are some brands out there that are generally considered safe and have a great reputation for being non-toxic.
These Baby Shampoo Brands include:
- The Honest Company
- The Honest Company is known for its non-toxic nature. They are known as a gentle brand that is made of natural ingredients like chamomile extract and aloe. They are also tear free, and hypoallergenic. Additionally, their products are scented with essential oils and made without parabens, dyes, synthetic fragrances, silicones, sulfates, formaldehyde donors, and phthalates. I personally love their Lavendar.
- Evereden Baby
- Evereden is a bit more expensive than the Honest company, however it is my absolute favorite. It has a gentle non-toxic formula that is fragrance-free, tear-free, and hydrating. It is coconut based and is formulated at the ideal PH level for your little one’s skin with glycerin-based moisturizers and oils that are perfect for dry skin. Additionally, it is one of the few companies that make their products in the USA.
- Hello Bello
- Hello Bello is the cheapest option when it comes to a clean body wash for your baby. It also has a gentle and hypoallergenic formula. Additionally, it does not contain parabens or phthalates. My favorite from the Hello Bello brand is the coconut. It is made with natural ingredients like coconut oil, marshmallow root, and aloe extract.
The Best Bubble Bath for your Toddler Bubble Bath
My little boy absolutely loves a bubble bath with lots and lots of bubbles. It is so much fun to see his face light up as he watches the clear warm water turn into a bubble haven. However, if you have a little girl, please be mindful that excessive use of bubble bath can lead to a urinary tract infection. That being said, you should also make sure your bubble bath products are made from natural products.
Here are some Bubble Bath Products that you may consider.
Bubble Podz
Bubble podz are known for being the best natural bubble bath. They are advertised as safe for children as young as one years old. Something you may like about Bubble Podz is that they are all single use pods, meaning you know exactly how much to use during each bath. They are also available in 8 different scents from vanilla to bubblegum.
ATTITUDE
ATTITUDE is a newer brand that is taking the non-toxic mom community by storm. It has a gentle formula that is sourced from 98.1% natural ingredients making it a great natural formula. It is also EWG verified and comes in four different scents for $10. A lot of the love for ATTITUDE comes from the price point. The only thing I worry about, is that it is a newer brand.
Hello Bello
Hello Bello is a brand that I mentioned earlier as a recommendation for body wash and shampoo. They also offer a bubble bath, which happens to be one of my favorite bubbles baths. I really love their sleep sweet collection which has uses aromatherapy to calm your little one to bedtime bliss. Their line is dermatologist tested, ophthalmologist approved, and pediatrician approved. (& toddler bubble bath approved) Also, the bubble quality is awesome with enough bubbles for lots bath time fun and it is $7.
The Honest Company
Another great brand that I mentioned earlier, The Honest Company. Now, their bubble bath I have never used but many moms I know love it. Their Bubble Bath is another natural product that they offer, it is also tear-free, and hypoallergenic. Plus it is made in the USA with 4 different variations.
Babo Botanicals
Babo Botanicals is a less common brand, but still so great. They have tons of great personal care products in addition to their bubble bath formulas. In addition to being a non-toxic brand, their bottle is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles making them eco-friendly as well.
I hope that this blog post was able to give you some ideas of products to use for your little one to enjoy a tear-free bubble bath, even with their sensitive skin. Now, go get some warm running water enjoy your toddler bubble bath!
